SkyyCast vs Metricool for Bluesky: Focused Publishing or All-in-One Analytics?

Metricool and SkyyCast both schedule posts to Bluesky, but they are built around different centres of gravity. Metricool is a multi-network tool where analytics is the main event: growth charts, best-time heatmaps, competitor benchmarking, ads reporting. SkyyCast is a Bluesky-only publishing tool with a lighter set of numbers. If you are trying to decide between them for Bluesky, the real question is how much analytics you actually need and whether you want one tool for several networks.

This comparison is published by SkyyCast, so read it with that in mind — we make one of the two tools. The Metricool facts here link to Metricool's own pages, and where a detail changes often, such as free-plan limits, we point you to their pricing page rather than quoting a number. The aim is a fair picture of the trade-offs, not a verdict.

Two-panel comparison of SkyyCast and Metricool for Bluesky. SkyyCast is a focused Bluesky publisher with automatic device time-zone handling, a free allowance of 15 publishes per month, and a nine-dollar Pro plan for unlimited publishing plus analytics. Metricool is a multi-network tool with deep analytics and heatmaps, competitor benchmarking, and a free plan with tier limits.

What each tool is

SkyyCast

SkyyCast schedules and publishes to Bluesky and no other network. You sign in with Google, connect Bluesky through its OAuth flow, and schedule text and image posts. Your time zone is detected from your browser or device automatically, and scheduled times are stored as absolute moments, so posts fire when you meant them to even after the clocks change. Scheduled posts go into a queue that publishes on its own and retries a failed publish rather than dropping it silently.

The Free plan includes 15 successful publishes per UTC calendar month with the full scheduling workflow. Pro is $9/month, lifts the monthly limit, and adds more detailed performance analytics. On the analytics side, SkyyCast reports engagement — likes, reposts, replies, quotes — along with your top and recent posts, and the Pro plan adds views such as text-versus-image performance, posting-time patterns and simple insights. It does not do competitor tracking or cross-network reporting, because there is only one network. Video posting is planned for a future release and is not available yet.

Metricool

Metricool is a social media management and analytics tool that supports around eleven platforms, Bluesky among them, and includes Bluesky on its free tier. It schedules posts to Bluesky — "plan future posts directly within the platform" and schedule them for when your audience is active — and its analytics for Bluesky include growth over time, follower acquisition, posting frequency, and per-post likes, replies, reposts and quotes. It also offers competitor benchmarking, best-time-to-post heatmaps, and reporting that extends to Google and Meta ads.

Metricool has a free plan and paid tiers. The free plan limits things like the number of connected brands, how many posts you can schedule per month, and how far back your analytics history goes. Those limits and Metricool's current prices are on Metricool's pricing page — check there, because they change.

How the two approaches differ in practice

If your week looks like "write a few Bluesky posts, schedule them, glance at how they did," SkyyCast is shaped for exactly that. There is one network, one queue, and a compact analytics view. You are usually a few minutes from having a post scheduled.

If your week involves comparing Bluesky against other networks, watching follower growth trends, checking when your audience is online, and keeping an eye on what similar accounts are doing, Metricool is built for that kind of attention. The trade is that there is more tool to learn and more of it you may not use if Bluesky is your only channel.

A concrete example: say you want to know whether your Tuesday posts do better than your Friday posts. In SkyyCast you would look at your recent posts and the Pro posting-time view and form a rough impression. In Metricool you would open a best-time heatmap built from your historical data and read it directly. The Metricool answer is more precise; whether that precision changes what you actually do is the question worth asking before you choose a tool for it.

A useful reality check before you lean on any dashboard: what Bluesky analytics can and cannot tell you explains the real limits of the numbers available on Bluesky today, which apply no matter which tool is displaying them.

Feature and use-case comparison

Networks. SkyyCast is Bluesky-only. Metricool covers roughly eleven platforms, including Bluesky, on one dashboard. If you want Bluesky planned next to Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, that is Metricool's whole premise.

Scheduling. Both schedule text and image posts to Bluesky, with a queue and time-aware publishing. SkyyCast handles the time zone for you automatically and retries a failed publish. Metricool schedules across all its networks from one calendar. Neither should be assumed to schedule Bluesky video — SkyyCast does not offer it yet; check Metricool's current support if it matters.

Analytics depth. This is the main divide. Metricool's analytics are broad and historical: growth curves, acquisition, frequency, heatmaps, competitor benchmarking, ads. SkyyCast's are narrower and publishing-focused: engagement per post, top and recent posts, and on Pro, format and timing patterns. If deep, cross-network, historical analysis is why you are choosing a tool, Metricool is the stronger fit. If you check numbers to see whether you are trending up and which posts landed, SkyyCast's view is usually enough.

Competitor tracking. Metricool offers it. SkyyCast does not.

Learning curve. A focused single-network tool has fewer screens and settings. A multi-network analytics platform has more of both. Neither is hard; it is a question of how much you want to manage.

Pricing shape. SkyyCast is free up to 15 publishes a month, then a flat $9/month for unlimited publishing plus more analytics. Metricool is free with limits on brands, scheduled posts and analytics history, then paid tiers. Compare against your real usage on their pricing page rather than the headline.

Where SkyyCast tends to fit

  • Bluesky is your main or only network.
  • You want scheduling and a compact, readable analytics view, not a research console.
  • You would rather not maintain a broad platform for one channel.
  • A fixed free allowance plus one flat upgrade matches how you think about cost.
  • You value automatic time-zone handling and a queue that recovers from a failed publish.

It is not the right choice if you need deep historical analytics, competitor benchmarking, cross-network reporting, or scheduling for platforms other than Bluesky.

Where Metricool tends to fit

  • You post to several networks and want them, and their numbers, in one place.
  • Analytics is a real part of your job: growth tracking, best-time analysis, benchmarking, ads reporting.
  • You want history that goes back further than a compact view provides.
  • You are comfortable with a larger tool in exchange for that depth.

As with any tool whose free tier has moving limits, decide against Metricool's current pricing.

A practical decision guide

  1. How central is analytics to your decision? If it is the main reason you want a tool, Metricool is built for that. If it is a weekly glance, SkyyCast's view is likely enough.
  2. How many networks are in your routine? One, and it is Bluesky: a focused tool fits. Several: Metricool's single dashboard is the point.
  3. Do you need competitor benchmarking or cross-network reports? If yes, that is Metricool. SkyyCast does neither.
  4. How much tool do you want to manage? Less, for one network, or more, for breadth and depth.
  5. Which pricing shape suits you? A fixed free allowance and a flat upgrade, or tiered plans with limits that scale.

Conclusion

Both tools schedule Bluesky posts well enough that scheduling is not the deciding factor. The decision is about scope. Metricool is a multi-network analytics platform that happens to publish; SkyyCast is a Bluesky publisher with a modest analytics view attached. If you want depth and breadth and will use them, Metricool is the stronger fit. If you want to schedule Bluesky posts with as little else in the way as possible, a focused tool makes more sense. Using a focused tool for Bluesky alongside a broader analytics tool for everything is also a perfectly reasonable setup.

If your posting centres on Bluesky, see how SkyyCast approaches scheduling and analytics, and building a repeatable posting workflow is worth a read whichever tool you land on. If the alternative you are considering is a general scheduler rather than an analytics platform, SkyyCast versus Buffer covers that comparison instead.

Common questions

Does Metricool support Bluesky? Yes. Metricool schedules posts to Bluesky and provides Bluesky analytics, including on its free tier. See Metricool's Bluesky analytics page.

Does SkyyCast have competitor analytics? No. SkyyCast reports on your own posts — engagement, top and recent posts, and on Pro, format and timing patterns. It does not track other accounts.

Which has the better free plan? They are shaped differently. SkyyCast's Free plan allows 15 successful publishes per UTC calendar month with the full workflow. Metricool's free plan spans multiple networks but limits brands, scheduled posts and analytics history. The right one depends on whether you value the multi-network reach or the simpler single-network allowance.

Can I schedule Bluesky video with either? SkyyCast does not offer video scheduling yet; it is planned. Check Metricool's current Bluesky video support on their site.
